C. Brooke Silber, LC, IES, LEED AP 

C. Brooke Silber joined Jan Moyer Design as Principal in March 2012, after 9 years as Senior Associate at architectural lighting design firm Domingo Gonzalez Associates.  Two years later, she partnered with her longtime mentor and grad-school advisor Jan Moyer to found Jan & Brooke, Luminae LLC. Brooke graduated with a Masters of Science in Lighting from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2000, and has been an architectural lighting designer focused on large-scale public and private projects.

Raised in central New York, Brooke earned a BFA from Syracuse University in Interior Design. She lived in California working for Kinko’s in the 1990s, developing standards and prototypes for stores ranging from 3,000 to 16,000 sq. ft. Recognizing the importance of light’s interaction with its surroundings, she developed a passion for lighting design — a field drawing on both aesthetic and technical abilities to profoundly shape our environments and sense of space. 

During her graduate education, Brooke worked with top lighting designers including Jan Moyer, Naomi Miller, Howard Brandston, and Fischer Marantz Stone and after graduation she spent two years at Brandston Partnership before moving to Domingo Gonzalez Associates. During her 13 years in lighting Brooke’s work has focused on large scale public and private projects including a master plan for the lighting of Downtown Syracuse, a master plan for the New Haven Green, New Haven CT; Brooklyn Museum of Art Plaza and Expansion Entry, Brooklyn, NY;  a master plan for Judiciary Square, Washington, DC, the DC Court of Appeals and Southwest Park in Washington, DC; Davidson County Courthouse in Nashville, TN; Peter Minuet Plaza, New York, NY; El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY; Peter Rodino Federal Office Building, Newark ,NJ; Thurgood Marshall Federal Courthouse, New York, NY; Atlantic Terminal Station Long Island RailRoad , Brooklyn, NY; and even the 96th Street Subway Station at Broadway, New York, NY. 

Brooke’s graduate thesis was on videoconferencing for distance learning, and her interest in lighting for videoconferencing has never diminished. She has been a member of the IESNA Lighting for Videoconferencing and Multi-Media Committee for over 12 years and co-chair of the IES committee for 8 years and Joint ANSI Standard committee with IES and INFOCOMM for 3 years.

Along with chairing a national IES committee, she has chaired or participated in numerous local IESNY committees including the Education Committee. Brooke is Lighting Certified (LC) by the NCQLP and has taught the NCQLP certification preparation course for IESNA/NYC. She also has taught Architectural Technologies at the City College of New York. Brooke currently is an adjunct faculty member at Parsons School of Constructed Environments for thesis students in the Masters in Lighting Design program. She is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Brooke lives in Wyckoff, NJ with her husband Ken and their son DeWitt, next to an 81-acre wildlife sanctuary and botanical garden that was originally a pig farm until the 1960s. Their house was built in Cotswold Cottage revival style the 1920s by the family owning the farm and is nestled into the sanctuary as if it is their own backyard.
